Updated September 2026. Looking for the old “Echo skill for Firestick” instructions? Amazon’s current setup uses the Alexa app to link a compatible Echo or other Alexa-enabled device to Fire TV. You do not need to hunt for an unofficial Fire TV skill or install an APK.
How to link an Echo to Fire TV
- Update your Fire TV software and the Alexa app.
- Register both devices to the same Amazon account.
- In the Alexa app, open More → Settings → TV & Video → Fire TV.
- Select Link Your Alexa Device, choose your Fire TV and compatible Alexa device, then follow the prompts.
- Try a simple command such as “Alexa, open Fire TV” or ask to play a title on Fire TV. Available commands vary by device, app and language.
Amazon says multiple Alexa devices can link to one Fire TV. Some features are unavailable on Echo Show or a paired Fire TV Cube. See Amazon’s linking instructions and supported controls for current compatibility.
Echo not controlling Fire TV?
- Confirm both devices appear under the same Amazon account and that the Alexa app and Fire TV are updated.
- Reopen TV & Video → Fire TV in the Alexa app and check the selected device pairing.
- Try a basic navigation or playback request first. A command that works in Fire TV may not work inside every third-party app.
- If you have several Fire TV devices, say the device name explicitly or review the pairing in the Alexa app.
What about Kodi?
Alexa can control some Fire TV functions, but that does not guarantee voice control of Kodi menus or third-party add-ons. For Kodi-specific setup, start with the official Kodi Fire TV guide and use legitimate media sources. Avoid old “fully loaded” builds or unknown download links.
Editorial note: This page replaces an unavailable old URL about an “Echo skill.” It describes Amazon’s currently documented device-linking method rather than claiming the old instructions still work.
